I may or may not get my menu posted after all. I am on my second tier of working my way up the Food Pyramid and making sure we all get our servings of fruits and vegetables every day is more complicated than I thought. The biggest reason is that we all like very different things in this category and I don’t want to discourage anyone from eating whatever produce they enjoy. Also, I noticed we were wasting half an apple here, a banana there… my husband suggested I put it in a bowl, sprinkle that “stuff you use for canning” (powdered citric acid) on it and every few days we have a fruit salad with dinner. Clever, no?
Either way, I want to mention two things. First, this week is “Turn Off the TV Week”. I hesitated posting about this, because to be honest, I am not turning off the TV. I think it’s a fantastic idea, but frankly my kids don’t watch that much TV and what they do watch is pretty good stuff. For example, today they watched “Danger Ranger”. It’s ridiculous, but they love it. It’s a cartoon all about safety. My favorite line is from a song.
If the baby swallows poison, or if Grandpa takes a fall it’s a bona-fide emergency, who you gonna call? 911!
It’s all bouncy and cheerful and weird. Anyway, this week is a good reminder to keep the viewing in-check. Second, tomorrow is Earth Day. Cleaver Mama just sent me an email wishing me a happy Earth Day Eve. She learned all about composting at the Zoo this weekend and is all fired up. Also, you can see from the comments that the The Diaper Diaries is going to start growing her own veggies and composting. And here is our big Earth Day contribution: my stud of a husband is going to start riding his bike to work tomorrow! He has spend months getting his commuter bike ready and mapping a route. I am so proud of him! 3inunder3 – tell Ricardo it’s ON for Mackinaw!
Crap, now that you put that out there on the blogosphere I have to really do it.
I’m so intrigued by your tiering up the food pyramid – what was your first post on that?
Clare’s newest latest Tv obsession has been The Magic School Bus on Discovery Kids. I love that she’s into that channel – way better than Sponge Bob. Happy Earth Day!
My red worms are hard at work right now eating banana peels, kiwi peels and newspaper. I am so fired up about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for directing me to the zoo 🙂
