Before I get into all of the fun things Grand Rapids has in store for you next week; I want to talk about an event that is happening this Sunday, September 16 from 4PM – 7:30PM at John Ball Park Zoo.
It is called Zoofest 2007, and it is the annual fundraiser for the United Methodist Community House. There are so many services provided by UMCH to our community I can’t list them all; but I will mention a few. They have a Child Development Center , an After School Center, a Family Development Center, a Senior Center, and a partnership with social workers and the police department.
It also includes a chili cook off with a contest between the GR Police and Fire Departments, a silent auction, children’s activities, and zoo admission. Tickets for this fundraiser include chili tasting and adults are $20 with children accompanied by an adult are free. For ticket reservations call Chris at (616) 452-3226. 10:30AM Play, Grow, Read! With Bright Beginnings. Wyoming Library. Have fun doing crafts, rhymes, songs and more! Pre-registration requred. Free.
5:00-8:00PM- Grand Rapids Children’s Museum Family Night. Admission $1. Dan Haseltine from Jars of Clay and Joel Schoon Tanis from “Come On Over!” release their new children’s book, “The One, The Only Magnificent Me”. Free Hudsonville Ice Cream for the first 500 people.
6:00 PM Great Start Kent County Parent Coalition Meeting. Childcare provided.
12:00-5:00 PM “LIVE! and Local.” A day dedicated to Michigan food producers. Meet them, and sample some of their foods. Grand River Grocery. Note: you’ll hear more on this later 🙂
9:00AM-10:00PM 29th Annual Eastown Street Fair. Music, arts and crafts, refreshments, and music.
9:00AM-2:00 PM Uptown Trolley is running!
11:00AM Schuler Books 28th Street Storytime, “Puff the Magic Dragon” and “A Dog Needs A Bone!”
