Great Skate Winterfest
There is an event this weekend you all need to know about. It fits nicely in the “Grand Rapids Rocks” category.
The Great Skate Winterfest is going on this Saturday and Sunday at Rosa Parks Circle. Admission is free, but there are fees for some of the activities. Here are just a few:
- Demonstrations from Burton Snowboards, as well as various skating clubs. Take your pick – there will be speed, synchronized, and figure skating. You can also skate yourself, if you like.
- Family activity tents with fun stuff from the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum, and the Grand Rapids Public Library.
- Games, dog sled rides, ice sculptures….
Check out the Griffins website for more info.
Speaking of the Griffins, here are a few ticket deals to make sure the economic downturn has not left you with Hockey Defecit Disorder.
Library nights on Friday. Show your KDL or GRPL library card at the box office on game night for up to four $10 lower bowl tickets.
Also on Friday of course is dollar beer/dollar dog night. My husband asked me to share the following advice with you
You have to get there early, and get your wife and kids hot dogs and then once they’re all settled, go get all your beer. Then go back to your seat and park it. Otherwise, you’ll be in line all night.
Spoken by one who knows.
I don’t know how quickly you’ll get these tickets, but you can sign your kids up for the “Put a Lid On It” program. If they promise to wear a bike helmet, they’ll get a voucher for two free upper bowl tickets.
You can also get tickets through the Grand Rapids Public Library’s “Check It Out!” program. Tickets are free, but limited number are distributed throughout the library system, so check with your local branch about what is currently available.
