We made it! All of us, that is. My husband by bike, and the rest of us by car. We met up with the ‘bad bikers’ (self proclaimed; they are actually very nice) somewhere around Mancelona to bring them lunch on Saturday, then saw them again Sunday as they rode into Mackinaw City. We were touring Colonial Michimilimackinac at the time so we were there for the grand finale, which Mother Nature celebrated with a lovely rain storm.
Our hotelwas great and I would recommend this to anyone who needs a family suite. We had two rooms adjoined by a little kitchenette with a sink, a teeny little counter, a ‘fridge, and microwave. One room had a queen sized bed, and the other room had two queens. Both had TV’s, and there was a little balcony with chairs overlooking the beach. This was lovely, unless we had food with us in which case the overly-aggressive seagulls joined us to dine. There is also a little indoor sprinkler park with a hot tub, and a separate pool area. My kids never knew the pool existed, so let’s just keep it that way. The hotel price matches, so definitely shop around and do your homework to save a few bucks.
We also went over to Mackinac Island, and got a package through Star Line Ferry that included the ferry ride, a horse carriage tour, and Fort Mackinac for $52 per person. The kids were free. This was the best deal I could find. The Fort was cool, there was a demonstration going on and a nice kids area.
My favorite part was the Vesper Cruise on Sunday night. If you’ve never been on a boat cruising under the Mackinac Bridge at sunset singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” with 50 strangers, it’s high time you did it. My least favorite part was lunch at the Dixie Saloon. This is a very cool looking restaurant, at the intersection of the two main streets in Mackinaw City. If you’re tempted to go in (and who could blame you?), please stick to something bottled or prepackaged, because they served us food that had been eaten by another table. The waitress explained that they had only taken “a few bites”. I refused to accept it, of course, and she tried again! Then the manager was called and my husband got mad and it got ugly.
So I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled blogging, just as soon as I finish my laundry. Sadly, I have had to take a temporary exemption from the Clothesline Challenge as I try to get this accomplished, but I will be back on track in no time. We’re headed off to the Mane Event and I hope many of you will be out and about enjoying it with us!

I CANNOT believe that a restaurant tried to give you someone else’s food! Crazy.
Glad to hear that you had a great time. We are planning to head that way in the next year(probably not til the fall or next summer) and I will keep your tips in mind.
I can’t believe that place tried to feed you someone else’s food…I would be calling the health dept up there or something!
Even I’ve taken a temporary exemption from my own Challenge…welcome back!
You have to be kidding me. I can’t believe she got caught and just said, “They barely took any bites” What the… that is insane!!
