I am totally pooped from the Star Power Rally in Lansing today. My kids and I had a great time, it was so exciting to be there and show the Capitol to my kids. They loved the rotunda. I haven’t been there in a while and haven’t looked through a child’s eyes in a really long while, so it was a pleasure (except for the keeping them sort of quiet part) to go with them. Anyone in Kent County – be proud of your Great Star Parent Coalition! We rocked it! We got to sit on the steps behind the speakers and were challenged to a yelling (“We Can DO THIS!”) contest against the rest of the Coalitions from other counties, and I am confident that we won.
Tomorrow is A.P.’s class picnic. His very last preschool event – wish me luck not crying as I say goodbye to his teacher. I got her an ice cream kit last year. It was a basket with all of the goodies that go on ice cream like cherries, fudge, nuts, caramel, etc. There were also four plastic bowls and an ice cream scoop.
This year, I got them a BBQ kit. There are little dish towels that say corny things like, “You Go, Grill!” and “The Burger The Better”. Also there is a BBQ spice shaker, tongs, and paper napkins and plates that match the towels. Oh, and ketchup and mustard containers – the classic yellow and red squeeze bottles, and a bottle of BBQ sauce. I went to buy a cute, grill-themed bag (oh how I love themes…) from the Dollar Store, and it occurred to me that for a dollar, I could get a reusable grocery bag at Meijer.
So, these BBQ kits are ‘wrapped’ in a lovely blue Meijer bag. Not the most attractive packaging (could they not have made them a little cuter?), to be sure, but work with me. I’m trying to start a trend here. I did manage to find some ribbon that says ‘Backyard BBQ’ to jazz it up a bit. This doesn’t have to be for teachers of course, but I’m tossing the suggestion out right now as many of you are probably getting teacher’s gifts together soon. Think of it – in a few years we could do away with gift bags entirely. Anyone care to join me?

What great gift ideas!
Thanks for visiting my blog this week.

Yes! I hate gift bags. They are such a waste of money and I still have a whole stack of them from my baby shower 5 years ago!! And thanks for the gift ideas. I have our picnic Friday and needed a little somethin’, somethin’.
Cool idea for a gift!
Thanks for stopping by! Oh and no raise for hubby! Just utilizing meats out of my freezer stockpile.
Could you put a couple of those together for me and get them to Nathan’s teachers by tomorrow at 8? Thanks.
I’m with Olivia. Two, please. And I don’t need them until 9am.
Wow that’s an awesome idea. I will save it in my memory bank. It beats staying up late at night to make scrapbooks of the year for each teacher.
Holy cow! Thanks for the reminder about teacher gifts!!! I had totally forgotten to put that on my end of the year “to do” list. Love the ideas for the kits
Yeah, that totally trumped my Starbucks gift card. Then again that is what happens when you remember teacher’s gifts at 10 am the morning of the picnic.
