I remember the first time A.P. ever got sick. He’s a really healthy kid overall; it was just a little cold when he was about eight months old. I was angry with my friend because she brought her sick kid around and germed my baby up. At the time I didn’t understand that kids are generally germ factories and until they master that hygiene thing, they are going to catch crud from each other on a nearly constant basis.
A.P. starts kindergarten in the fall; and with it brings a whole new set of germ potential. Cooties from kids I don’t even know. The horror. We all want to take care of our kids and keep them healthy, but it isn’t always possible. One very common, albeit ‘icky’ thing that kids catch from each other is lice. I remember the school nurse coming around after an outbreak and picking through our hair with a black plastic comb; looking for eggs. It didn’t occur to me for a long time that she used the same comb on all of us - probably not the best public health move ever made.
As if getting lice isn’t bad enough, the treatments are scary. Think about it; these are bugs. How do we kill bugs? Pesticides. If it’s strong enough to do them in; what is it doing to your child? If you find your child in a situation of needing a lice treatment, take a look at LiceMD. According to that website, lice is second only to the common cold in childhood conditions. I was sent a sample, although I cannot claim to have used it as we are currently lice-free. I hope that all of our kids stay that way (I mean yours, too) but if not, I will definitely give LiceMD a try.

The cooties really aren’t that bad. Clare has only missed 5 days this entire year. If we ever do come up with lice though, I may have to look into LiceMD.
